Amazing Grace (1 Chronicles 17:16-17)

Phillip Stuckey, July 5, 2020
Part of the Hymn Studies series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

How often do you stop and reflect on the grace of God? Grace is God’s unmerited favor toward humanity and without it, we would be hopelessly lost. The Bible often reminds us of this truth, to reflect on where we were without God’s grace and where we are because of it (Eph. 2:1-10). Let’s consider a hymn that also reminds us of this great truth, John Newton’s Amazing Grace.

1 Chronicles 17:16–17 (Listen)

16 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and said, “Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? 17 And this was a small thing in your eyes, O God. You have also spoken of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and have shown me future generations, O LORD God!
