Whoever Desires To Love Life And See Good Days (1 Peter 3:8-12)

Phillip Stuckey, May 29, 2016
Part of the Miscellaneous series, preached at a Sunday Evening service

Do you love life? Most every living creature does and fights to preserve itself. Even the saint, who has the hope of eternal life, desires to have the best life he or she can while in this world as well as in eternity. Here in our text, the apostle Peter calls on the brethren to inherit a blessing and provides them with some conditions necessary to do so (1 Pet. 3:10-12, Ps. 34:12-16). Let us consider Peter’s instructions so that we too can inherit the blessing God has planned for those who love Him.

1 Peter 3:8–12 (Listen)

Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. 10 For

  “Whoever desires to love life
    and see good days,
  let him keep his tongue from evil
    and his lips from speaking deceit;
11   let him turn away from evil and do good;
    let him seek peace and pursue it.
12   For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
    and his ears are open to their prayer.
  But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
