Pray About Not Quenching The Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22)

Phillip Stuckey, September 1, 2019
Part of the The Power of Prayer series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

In Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians, we have been noticing his series of exhortations in the close of the letter to encourage us in our prayers to God. Just after Paul’s exhortations for the saints to engage in joyful, thankful worship and praise to God, we have another series of exhortations (1 Thess. 5:19-22). This one begins with the instruction to not “quench the Spirit.” Let’s consider Paul’s instruction and let it encourage us to pray about not quenching the Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:19–22 (Listen)

19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
