The Book of Zephaniah

The Sunday evening lesson for January 17, 2021.

The Book of Zephaniah (Zephaniah 2:1-3)

Phillip Stuckey, January 17, 2021
Part of the Overviews of The Minor Prophets series, preached at a Sunday Evening service

Zephaniah is another book of the minor prophets that opens with a bang (Zeph. 1:2-3). It is filled with intense images of God’s justice, but of also God’s love. What can we learn from this short little book?

Zephaniah 2:1–3 (Listen)

2:1   Gather together, yes, gather,
    O shameless nation,
  before the decree takes effect
    —before the day passes away like chaff—
  before there comes upon you
    the burning anger of the LORD,
  before there comes upon you
    the day of the anger of the LORD.
  Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land,
    who do his just commands;
  seek righteousness; seek humility;
    perhaps you may be hidden
    on the day of the anger of the LORD.
